Wondering why to donate through giving2children?

Because this way your donation has the power to transform lives. Through giving2children you are not simply giving money, you are offering support, care, hope and a better future to children and adolescents with cancer across the globe.

Your donations support our member organisations to achieve their goals and implement necessary programmes.

This way, you help them build resilience and you help children with cancer across the world, also in countries facing many barriers and lack of resources.

You know that your donation is used for good and for the purposes of the project.

All organisations are CCI members, and we review and vet all projects. We have set up a secure donation journey from you to the beneficiary, and we provide you with regular updates on the project progress.

Giving is not just an act of kindness. It comes with joy and personal fulfilment!

Set an example and inspire others to follow your lead. By donating and sharing your experience, you can help us build a worldwide movement supporting childhood cancer.

What projects are on giving2children

This is a crowdfunding platform exclusively designed for member organisations of Childhood Cancer International, the largest patient support organisation for childhood cancer, and the operator of giving2children.
We provide a secure virtual space where passionate organisations can post impactful projects and further pursue their goal of supporting children with cancer and their families.
All projects are related directly to childhood cancer, but since our members come from all around the world and have different needs and objectives, projects can cover any kind of need or cause, such as:

Psychosocial support programmes Educational programmes
Community events, public awareness campaigns Basic research
Financial assistance to cover nutrition, and transport programmes for childhood cancer patients.

Depending on what happens if the fundraiser doesn’t meet their fundraising goal, we promote 2 different types of projects:

Flexible – The organisation will be able to launch part of the project if the fundraising goal is not met by the deadline. Nutrition packages are such an example of a flexible project, as you can prepare fewer than originally planned.

All-or-nothing – The organisation needs the entire amount to even consider starting off. If the fundraising goal is not met, all donations will be refunded. Fundraising for a vehicle or a medical device is an example of an all-or-nothing project.

How is transparency and accountability promoted

We take transparency and accountability very seriously. To this end, we have established specific rules and procedures to make sure that all donations are put into good use, promoting the needs of local childhood cancer communities:

Only CCI member organisations can fundraise – We know our members and we make sure they have the capacity to complete the projects and programmes they are fundraising for.

Projects are reviewed and vetted – Before a project is posted, we check all the details, making sure that the project is meaningful, impactful and feasible. We may deny posting a project, if we think it does not adhere to our principles, guidelines and criteria.

Secure payment gateways – We use PayPal and Stripe to collect donations. All funds are collected by CCI to a dedicated account. Once the project period has ended, we transfer the funds to the organisation’s bank account EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). In case you support an all-or-nothing project and the fundraising goal is not met, you will receive a refund.

Regular updates – We ask organisations to send us regular updates on the progress of their project, as well as a final report once it is completed. This way, we make sure that your donations are used for the purposes raised. We update the dedicated project page and also update you by email, so you can monitor the impact of your donation.

Some facts about childhood cancer

400,000+ children and adolescents under 20 are diagnosed with cancer every year. Childhood cancer is one of the major causes of death for children and adolescents and the second highest cause of death for children between 5-14.

It is not a single disease. There are dozens of different types that require different treatment and care. Unlike some adult cancers, childhood cancer is not related to lifestyle, and usually cannot be prevented or identified through screening.

There are some good news: early diagnosis and the right medical care can lead to a cure for most children.

However, survival rates depend on the region, with survival rates around 80% in most high-income countries, but as low as 20% in some low- and middle-income countries. This usually has to do with access to early diagnosis, proper care, treatment and medication. The World Health Organization has set a global goal of at least 60% global survival rate for childhood cancer by 2030.

And of course, it never ends when treatment is over. Most childhood cancer survivors face long-term health related issues as a result of the severe and toxic treatments they have received. In other words, children and teenagers need support and care during treatment, and often for many years after treatment is over.
